About

Standards of Care is a roadmap of quality service outlining the standards of care in the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics & Neonatal Care covering 25 key clinical areas of clinical conditions which affect women throughout their lives. The standards address the necessary requirements for training and support for doctors and healthcare professionals and are promoted to be adopted by the Ministries of Health and to be used by healthcare professionals.

Impact

By addressing the necessary requirements for healthcare professionals, the roadmap outlines the best possible health care for women and tries to eliminate the disparity in accessibility to and quality of care in sexual and reproductive health services between countries within Europe, aiming to decreasing significant variations in survival following medical operations.

Main deliverables

Develop Europe-wide Standards of care for women’s health services

To review current evidence-based published standards of care in the EU Member States

To develop agreed standards of gynecological care for benign and malignant conditions, maternity care, from pre-pregnancy through intrapartum care to the post-natal period including care of the newborn

Provide an invaluable toolset for commissioners of health services for delivering equitable, high level, quality-assured care to women, their babies and their wider families

Why necessary in society?

The disparity in accessibility to sexual and reproductive health care service in the fields of Gynaecology and Obstetrics & Neonatal Care is large between European countries and even regions within countries. Inequity in the treatment of common gynaecological conditions can lead to significant variations in survival between European countries.
